How to Clean a Copper Farmhouse Sink

Copper Farmhouse Sinks

Cleaning your copper sink is surprisingly easy and simple. For basic, every day, cleaning simply use a mild soap and water, that's it! Nothing fancy no bleach or ajax here.

Our farmhouse copper sink from Sinkology (via Home Depot) is one of my favorite things in my whole house. It really pops in our light kitchen and the extra space is so nice!

I have literally been dreaming of bathing a baby in it! Taking photos of a wee little one in it is on my list of must do's. My girls are too big but maybe one day there might be another little one to bathe.  Shhhhh just don't tell my husband because he wants another one now and he may be able to convinve me pretty easy.

I get asked a lot on my Instagram account how  I clean my sink. I share a lot of photos of it on there and thought I would create a whole blog post around it. I reached out to Sinkology and they were kind enough to collab with me to giveaway one of their cleaning kits! More on that in a bit.

How to Clean a Copper Sink

1) Rinse after every use

2) Use only mild dish soap

3) Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners

4) Clean regularly with hot water and mild dish soap

5) Use Copper Armor cleaning and protecting kit.

The one precaution I also suggest is to avoid leaving harsh chemicals and acidic foods in a copper sink. These can temporarily lighten a copper sink’s patina finish—whether a natural patina or an applied patina finish.

Ever Changing Colors

The copper finish is a living finish and never really stops changing in colors. The gradual change of the copper finish is an interesting process. As the surface ages and is used it constantly changes colors.

If you do get a discolored spot don't fret. I'm not going to lie with two kids and myself home all day we go through a lot of dishes and I am not the best a keeping up with them. It is the one chore I hate doing. So I tend to get some discoloration but they do not last long at all!

If your sink has any shiny spots they will not last long. Take a look at this video of how to restore the patina.

Using the Copper Armor Kit

I found out about the kit after following Sinkology on Instagram. I had found them and tagged them in one of my sink photos and continued to follow along. I purchased the kit from Amazon and it arrived 2 days later.

There are instructions included that are extremely easy to follow. Spray the protectant spray and use the provided cloth and cover the entire sink. There will still be some coloring that is what natural copper patina looks like. Each day the colors will change and vary.

If there are bright spots try using the rag or your finger and wipe away softly and within a day or so they will start changing the patina back to normal. Take a look at the video below for an in-depth look at copper sinks.

Buying A Farmhouse Copper Sink

If you are wondering which sink I bought that is pictured above for reference it is this one below. I absolutely love it and wouldn't change it for the world! I think it pops in our kitchen and I am not going to lie I love getting compliments on it too (sorry, not sorry!)

The sink comes in multiple sizes and they also offer a double sink option as well. I will never go back to a divided sink I love the big one!

ECOSINKS

For fun, I added few accessories you can use with your copper sinks. I would love to see photos of your sinks tag me on Instagram @hudsonfarmhouse. Our next project is going to be a bathroom remdoel and I hope to be adding another copper sink!
